Trapped in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Lilian is caught up in a maelstrom of death when the outbreak hits Johannesburg, a city numbering in the millions.

With no one to rely on but herself, she has to find a way off the bloody streets before it’s too late. But with a six-month-old baby and a hysterical toddler in tow, escape seems unlikely.

Battered and abused, Maria looks back upon her life with husband Rolf with loathing.

Caught in a prison from which she cannot escape, she’s powerless to change her destiny and forever bound to a man she hates. Until the virus grants her an unexpected chance at revenge.

All it takes is one mistake…

As the sun sets against the backdrop of the African veldt and living nightmares walk the streets in the shape of their loved one’s bodies, humanity’s last hope rests in the hands of ordinary men and women called to do extraordinary things.

Review:

A short book; the prequel to introduce readers to the zombie apocalypse series, Dangerous Days. It is chock full of characters and their initial encounter with those infected with the virus.

A few that caught my attention were: Morgan, married to a sweet man who adores her, but ends up trying to eat her alive. Lillian is a mother of two small children, who barely escapes a car traffic jam as the undead surge to rend victims apart. Henri, an elderly man who’d just lost his long-time wife to zombies, was about to take his life and join her. Instead he rescues a young couple as they run from the infected.

All the characters were different and stories interesting. I can see that the survivors will end up in a safe compound together, or at least try for it. I always enjoy stories that are set at the beginning of a zombie outbreak; see who the people were and how they survive. Some in this novella were clearly not ready for such an event, yet they quickly adapted, while others were prepared to survive a disaster…though none thought it would be a zombie outbreak.

I’m intrigued and plan on reading Dangerous Days to see how the characters adventures develop. Recommended to those who enjoy zombie stories and wish an introduction to a new series.
