John is a killer, but that wasn’t his day job before the Apocalypse.

In a harrowing 900 mile race against time to get to his wife just as the dead begin to rise, John, a business man trapped in New York, soon learns that the zombies are the least of his worries, as he sees first-hand the horror of what man is capable of with no rules, no consequences and death at every turn.

Teaming up with an ex-army pilot named Kyle, they escape New York only to stumble across a man who says that he has the key to a rumored underground stronghold called Avalon….. Will they find safety? Will they make it to Johns wife before it’s too late?

Review:

John was a businessman, in NY for a meeting when the zombie apocalypse started. The scenes in the office building were horrific and shows how quickly being in such an environment, your safety can be gone in no time.

Hooking up with Kyle, a security guard probably saved John. The big man knew his stuff, being a former helicopter pilot in the Army. John has one objective, get home to his pregnant wife, who is 900 miles away in Atlanta. He and Kyle make it outside the city after a daring escape, and rescue Michael, an older man they rescued from a downed helicopter.

Michael claims he has tickets to Avalon, a safe underground bunker, and he can get them in too. John decided to check it out before heading to his wife; maybe it would be a safe haven for her. Having been in contact by phone messages, he knows she escaped with a friend to a more secure environment; a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The three do find Avalon and John’s radar goes up almost immediately. Not everything is as presented by those who greet them; something feels off to him. They are thrust into an unimaginable battle to the death with zombies in an Arena, reminiscent of the gladiator fights of Rome. The friends do overcome the horrific obstacles with assistance from others at Avalon who organized a coup of the ruling class.

John finally makes it to his wife. The ending is sad and not what I hoped for, but this is the zombie apocalypse. Not too many happy endings in these worlds.

Recommended for those who love a good zombie tale with a main character who was an ordinary man thrust into heroics by an apocalypse.
